Word to scanned PDF: make a Word document look scanned

You don’t need a printer or a scanner. Export the Word document as a PDF, then use Scan Effect to make the PDF look scanned. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Step 1: Export the Word document as PDF

Once it’s a PDF, the layout is locked and won’t shift on another computer.

Step 2: Add the PDF to Scan Effect

Open Scan Effect and click Choose files, or drag the PDF onto the page. Every page of the document shows up below the preview.

Step 3: Pick an effect and download

Photocopy gives a copy-shop look, Printed & scanned is cleaner, and Black & white makes a pure black-and-white scan. When it looks right, click Download PDF to get your scanned-looking PDF.

Open Scan Effect and convert your PDF

A processed file only looks like a scan. Use it only for your own documents or ones you are authorized to handle, and never to forge certificates or deceive anyone.

FAQ

Why can’t I open the Word file directly?

A browser can’t reproduce Word’s layout reliably, so fonts and page breaks often move. Exporting to PDF first is the safest way, and what you see is what you get.

The layout looks wrong. What should I do?

Check the exported PDF itself first. If the PDF is already off, it’s usually a font issue: embed fonts when exporting, or switch to a common font and export again.

Can I add a signature to the scan?

Yes. In Scan Effect, click Add signature to draw it, type it in a handwriting font, or upload a photo. Only for your own documents or ones you are authorized to sign.

Is my document uploaded?

No. Exporting to PDF happens on your computer, and the scan effect runs in your browser. Nothing goes through a server.
